The Three Inn Signs

Three signs, three inns, each one a short walk from the next. A black eagle for the one favored by officers passing through. A Bavarian crested helmet, the Raupenhelm, for the one with the better kitchen. And over the market street, the Weisser Schwann: a white swan nobody has bothered to repaint in longer than anyone working there can remember.

Hagan could have told you, without looking up, which one of the three kept the quietest rooms, and did not, in the end, choose on that basis.
