About This Album
The album was compiled by the family’s historian, known in these pages as F-M, with the help of his assistant, Greville, and given to Lady Margaret and her son Sir Reginald (to those who knew him, Reggie) as a gift. It is a scrapbook in the old sense: paintings, sketches, letters, receipts, and the notes the compilers wrote to explain what the family would not.
Voss Court Press has begun digitizing the material, and these pages are the result. They appear as they are ready. Some are still being prepared, and some of the album’s own pages carry only a caption where a story was meant to go.
Notes headed F-M Endnote are the historian’s own. Where a page is in Greville’s hand, it says so. The compilers did not always agree with each other, or with the family, and we have left their disagreements where we found them.
Voss Court Press has acquired the rights to the Hagan books and to Thomas Scull’s memoir, and is in the process of acquiring the rights to other books by those who appear in this archive. As each is secured, it will be added to the shelves of the Jefferson Library.
